Story Pots

Michelle Bugler

Michelle is an Early Years Specialist in The Arts. Do you want your children to relate 'pots' of stories? This workshop on Story Pots will do just that. To engage children in tactile creative ways is to engage them in stories.; meaningful, descriptive and interesting stories. In this workshop, teachers will have the opportunity to develop skills and techniques for implementing a sculptural project with Early Years students.
The project moves through the following:
• understanding two-dimensional design concepts involving the creation of a "Story Pot"
• transforming the two-dimensional design into a three-dimensional sculptural object using the coiling and clay modelling processes
• utilising two dimensional drawing and painting skills to communicate a narrative story to embellish the pot.
Sculptural concepts and activities are often avoided in Early Years settings due to the perceived "difficulty" factor. However, experiences in this artistic area can be richly rewarding for children and teachers alike. Come to the workshop and see how to integrate skills and techniques that develop fine motor skills, art language that develops vocabulary, and conceptual frameworks that involve challenging children's thinking through moving from two dimensional to three dimensional forms. Michelle will demonstrate practical techniques, teaching strategies and approaches to enable you to easily incorporate the activity into your classroom practice.
On top of that, it will be fun!
